By 2050 US electricity from renewables will beat fossil fuels

The US Energy Information Administration, EIA, for the very first time projects that by 2050 electricity generated in the US by renewable technologies (solar and wind) will be ahead of electricity produced by fossil fuels (coal and natural gas).

To date, there has been a noticeable decrease of the percentage of electricity produced by coal-fired plants. But this has been due primarily to the increased availability of cheap natural gas. Whereas, going forward, according to EIA, renewables will become better and cheaper than all fossil fuels alternatives, and therefore most likely they will become the leading component of the US electrical power generation mix by 2050.
