On April 17, 2018 the Global Policy Institute and BAU International University hosted H.E. Dr. Barfuor Adjei-Barwuah, Ambassador of Ghana to the United States. Ambassador Adjei-Barwuah provided a vivid and illuminating description of Ghana’s long and mostly successful journey from ex British colony to vibrant emerging market. Ghana’s success –the Ambassador explained–can be attributed to deep democratic roots and good governance, to the desire to reduce and eventually eliminate its dependence on foreign aid and to the creation of a business friendly legal and regulatory framework aimed at encouraging Foreign Direct Investments. Furthermore, Ghana is focusing on the modernization of its important agricultural sector (the country is one of the leading world cocoa producers), while it looks at its oil sector as an opportunity to invest the new revenue in important economic and social development programs, like improved health care. “Peaceful, democratic and industrious, Ghana is open for business.” told Ambassador Adjei-Barwuah.
His presentation focused on Ghana’s history, distinctive culture and economic development achievements.
