On September 27th The Global Policy Institute, GPI, and BAU International University, in partnership with DC Startup Week, jointly hosted a workshop on “Negotiation Skills”. This special event was part of the week long series of events within a busy DC Startup Week calendar.
Ted Boone was the main Presenter and Workshop Facilitator. Mr Boone, a lawyer with vast international experience, is Assistant General Counsel, Ernst & Young LLP in Washington, DC; and an Adjunct Professor with the Georgetown University Law Center.
Paolo von Schirach, GPI President, welcomed all the participants.
The goal of this 3 hour interactive workshop, directed by Mr. Boone, was to make the participants focus on how to structure a negotiation, and how business people should work with lawyers in order to formulate negotiating strategies for their businesses.
The workshop included an elaborate simulation, with participants playing the roles of agents of buyers and sellers in a major international transaction. Under the guidance of Mr. Boone, all participants were divided into two teams tasked with reviewing confidential documents and develop their negotiating positions on how to present their points to the other side. A spirited negotiation followed which gave all participants great insights on best practices and common mistakes.
Thanks to this unique workshop, participants learned new negotiating strategies, and how lawyers and business people can best work together to accomplish business objectives.
