Haroon Hakimi
Dr. Haroon Hakimi is a scholar-diplomat whose career spans nearly two decades at the intersection of media, public policy, research, and international affairs. His work examines how energy and mineral wealth shape national resilience, governance, and global stability, particularly in fragile and resource-rich states.
A former senior Afghan government official, Dr. Hakimi served as Deputy Minister of Information, Culture, Youth and Tourism, and as Head of Chancery and Latin America Affairs at the Embassy of Afghanistan in Washington, D.C., representing his country across bilateral and multilateral forums throughout the Americas.
He currently directs the Energy Security and Minerals Program at the America–Eurasia Center and serves as a Research Analyst at the Global Policy Institute, where his research bridges the worlds of policy and practice. He is the author of Resources, Power, and Nation Building: Afghanistan and the Promise of Minerals, a study of how strategic minerals can shape the trajectory of state-building, and how nations can chart a path around the resource curse.
